Private garden - In Tuscany - near Pescaglia - Lucca - Italy

This is the garden of Vito & Gemma, camellias and magnolias lovers. Since 1983, they have built up a magnificent collection, which has been enriched over time and through their travels. The garden is in Pescaglia, in the mountains around thirty kilometres from Lucca. It is laid out in terraces and now boasts 1,200 camellias, 200 magnolias, 800 azaleas and 70 hydrangeas. The garden has been extended to cover a total area of 15,000 m². It's a wonderful walk and the collection is superb. The garden is now open to the public and will soon be a Garden of Excellence ICS.

To access the garden, you have to take this staircase. We start our walk in the middle of the camellias. Some of them are carefully pruned at the edges.

Camellias are numerous and are found on terraces, where they can form undergrowth. They mingle with Magnolias. Opposite, 'Montironi', the famous Italian camellia.
